Duncan McGill

I created Switching On The Light as a collaborative enterprise with a network of trusted engineers, design professionals and tradespeople with a common goal of providing an honest, consistently high standard end product.

I have always strived to be the best I can be every day, believing in honesty and integrity, safety without exception and quality to the core. These are the standards I live by, lead by and my customer can expect without fail, either autonomously, or as part of a team.

Unlike many areas of the construction industry, I wanted to create a company that does not solely measure it’s success by business productivity [too often at the expense of quality]. For this reason we focus of working directly with the client, architects and designers rather than with large property development companies and sub-contracting on large scale construction sites. Our work is therefore always focused on understanding and delivering our customers vision, is always personal and rarely bland.

Our aim is for everything we deliver to our clients to be ‘right-first-time’ and without defect. As such, we place great emphasis on continuing the relationship beyond completion to ensure satisfaction and the reputation of our business continues long after we have left site.

The company continues to provide training and development to embrace a variety of existing and emerging technologies, primarily in the renewable energy sector.

Prior to Switching On The Light, I worked within one of the most highly regulated, quality and safety driven industries for almost 25 years; where my expertise in leadership, quality, safety and performance saw me lead a number of high performing teams and deliver numerous successful projects across manufacturing, supply chain and engineering, all on time, within budget and without serious incident.

This required not simply good planning, but also the ability to communicate concise, accurate information and expectations to great effect across a number of disciplines whilst instilling a culture of continuous improvement and trust.
